Recap from Part 1:
When the movie “The Shack” began showing in theaters a couple of weeks ago, I was shocked by how many of my Christian friends, and leaders within the Christian community loved this movie and thought it was entirely biblical. No matter what you tell them or show them from the Bible, they still believe this movie is a wonderful representation of the Gospel. They defend it, ridicule fellow Believers for not liking it, call those who do not approve of it names such as “Pharisees” and “Broods of Vipers,” “Judgmental,” Dissenters in the Body of Christ,” the list goes on and on. No matter what you say, you are a terrible person for speaking against this movie and the gospel that is presented in it.
I posted the above graphic in a debate on Facebook. Most everyone involved think the movie is excellent, but there are those who do not, and I am one of them. When I posted this graphic that I had seen elsewhere, I was attacked and told that I did not prove what the graphic states, and that I did not post any Biblical verses to refute its claims. I admit they were right so I am writing this article about the heresies listed in the graphic above.
The graphic is hard to read so I will list the heresies here, and today we will cover numbers 1 and 2.
• God the Father was crucified with Christ.
• God is limited by His love and therefore, cannot practice judgment.
• God forgave all of humanity, whether they repented or not.
• All hierarchical structures are evil
• God will never judge people for their sins
• The Godhead has no hierarchical structure, just a circle of unity.
• God submits to human wiles and choices
• Justice will never take place because of love
• There is no such thing as eternal judgment or torment in hell!
• It does not matter which way you get to God. Jesus is walking with all people in their different journeys.
• Jesus is constantly being transformed along with us.
• Everyone will make it to heaven.
• The Bible is not true because it reduces God to paper.
Those of you who are discerning and know your Bibles well will be sickened by these 13 heresies. There are more than these, but because I am using the graphic, I will stick to these thirteen.
If you notice, it tends to repeat itself on the topic of heaven and judgment. Six of the thirteen all states that God loves us all, forgives all whether we repent or not so, no hell. God can’t judge us because He loves us so, no hell. God will never judge anyone so, no hell. There will be no justice (God’s judgment of the wicked) so, no hell. Eternal judgment is false; hell doesn’t exist. And finally, everybody gets to go to heaven so, no hell.
All of these are in the movie to convince people that there is no hell. You don’t have to repent. Live it up! Party! Do whatever you want because when you die, you get a free pass to heaven because God loves you and is powerless to do anything about it, so you won’t go to hell. Don’t believe any of that because it is all lies. As you will see as we cover these statements one by one. Today we will cover the first two heresies.
HERESY #1. God the Father was crucified with Christ.
TRUTH: “About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,lemasabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).” ~Matthew 27:46 (NIV) (This verse is stated once again in Mark.15:34.)
Here, we see Jesus crying out to His Father. The Father is in heaven and just as He placed all the sin of the world upon Jesus, He turned away. God cannot bear to look at sin. This is why Jesus cried out to Him; He knew God had to turn away from the sin as He poured His wrath on Christ as punishment for our sins. You see, Jesus had to take our sin upon Him and be punished in our place so that we wouldn’t have to answer for our sins in eternity. He paid for all the world’s sins but that does not mean you get a free pass to heaven. You must repent of your sins, accept Christ as your Savior, die to self and live for Him daily. Once you repent and are saved, God will only see the Righteousness of Christ when He looks at you. Remain in your sin and never repent, when He looks at you, all He will see is your sin.
“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.” ~Ephesians 5:6 (NIV)
Deception comes in many forms; false teaching is one of the top reasons so many die lost. Man does not read his Bible, so he doesn’t know the Word of God and is therefore deceived by deceitful teachers who teach that God loves all of us, Jesus isn’t the only way, a loving God would never send such a good person as you to hell. You can have your best life now and later too, let’s all sit around the campfire roasting marshmallows and sing Kumbaya, but guess what? You are still going to hell!
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”~ John 3:36
“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!” ~Romans 5:9 (NIV)
I know this is hard teaching, but it is biblical, still; you should get out your Bible and read it, ask God to help you see His truths.
Was God the Father on the cross? No! I know “The Shack” claims this but this is false. The Father never hung upon a cross. Look it up! Don’t be lazy because your soul is at stake here. This evening could very well be the last one you have. Don’t take chances. If you die lost you will stay lost.
“But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.” ~Romans 2:5 (NIV)
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness” ~Romans 1:18 (NIV)
HERESY #2: God is limited by His love and therefore, cannot practice judgment.
TRUTH: “”Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” (Matthew 7:21-23 NIV)
This is what happens to those who have been deceived by false teaching, to those who pretend to be Christians and think that if they can fool man, they can fool God. Some think God will give them a free pass if they work for Him but never accept Christ.
“The Shack” teaches that you can, but it is wrong. Jesus Himself says so. Do you really think you can stand before God and expect Him to let you into His Kingdom after denying Christ and what He did for you? It is very foolish and dangerous if you do.
This is the judgment of God. Don’t think you will be standing before Him and give reasons why He shouldn’t punish you. You will be on your face at His feet!
“It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'” ~Romans 14:11 (NIV)
You will come face to face with God Almighty, and you will not be standing. You won’t be able to get a word out of your mouth, much less tell God why He has to spare you from hell. The arrogance of man is astounding!
We are coming to another hard teaching. The second heresy says God is limited by His love. First, God is not limited. He is above the boundaries of time and space, outside of time as we know it. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Nothing binds Him. He is our all-powerful Creator Who made time, Who made space, Who made all there is to be made; He is the One Who made it. His power is not limited or restrained in any way.
” “God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him? Who has prescribed his ways for him, or said to him, ‘You have done wrong’?”
~ Job 36:22-23 (NIV)
The Contemporary English Version says it like this:
“God’s power is unlimited. He needs no teachers to guide or correct him.” Job 36:22-23 (CEV)
God is not helpless or limited. He has no problem sending unbelievers to hell. To anyone who says otherwise, God sits in heaven on His throne and laughs at those who think they are so wise, those that plot and scheme against Him.
“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath…” Psalm 2:1-5 (NIV)
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.” ~Proverbs 3:7 (NIV)
You can plot and scheme openly against God, or you can be like “The Shack,” you can rewrite the Word of God for your own agenda or needs, or you can do it Thomas Jefferson’s way and cut out all the verses that offend you. Most men are so arrogant that they think if there is a God He needs to have some lessons on humanity. That He should not be such a judgmental hater. He is supposed to love everyone.
I have a surprise for you. Unless you are saved God does not love you. He hates you and your sin. God knows all about you and all your secrets too. Nothing is hidden from Him, and He will reveal all.
“He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.” ~Psalm 11:4-5 (NIV)
“For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, LORD, detest.” ~Psalm 5:4-6 (NIV)
“There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.” ~Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV)
“Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs. “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” ~Luke 12:1-5 (NIV)
As you can see in the above verses, God does indeed hate so the statement that He loves everyone is false. You can also see that nothing gets by Him, His power is unlimited, and He can and does throw the unrepentant sinners in hell. However, if you are truly saved, you will have all of His love forever and no love is greater than His.
Get out your Bible. If you don’t have one, get one. If you can’t afford it go get one from a library. You can even download one for free on your computer or a tablet. Amazon’s Kindle has free Bibles and their free Kindle app works on PCs and other tablets. Nook has them as well. Read it. Get to know God through His Word. Jesus came to save sinners. It is the only reason He came. He was born to die. His death upon the cross saves us because He took the punishment for our sins. Believe that. Let Him into your life. Receive the gift of salvation by repenting of your sins and asking Him to forgive you for them and then allow Him to live through you. It’s not an easy road, it’s very narrow, but it is the only road you can take because Jesus is the only way. He is our Savior, our Redeemer, our Teacher; He is everything you will ever need for this life. Dedicate your life to Him and continue to read the Bible every day. You will learn to discern what is false and what is Truth. Don’t fall for the lies Satan feeds you through things like “The Shack” or feel good gospels that are deceitful and only lead to your destruction. Instead, read the Bible and learn to discern. Do not be deceived and forever lost.
